Reusable or recyclable packaging

Commitment number 2 on our 2023 roadmap is the sourcing of 100% reusable or recyclable packaging , within both our FOH and BOH operations.

Whilst there are many plastic alternatives available, they are not necessary more sustainable. PLA is a type of plastic made from plants. If it is not managed correctly the material will react the same way as traditional fossil fuel based plastics and pollute both marine and land environments. Also, if it is incorrectly placed in a mixed recycling bin, it will contaminate and disrupt the recycling of conventional plastics.

If a dedicated waste stream for In Vessel Composting isn’t available, compostable packaging must be disposed as general waste and sent for Energy from Waste (incineration) – which doesn’t support a circular economy.

Plastics and recycling are complicated areas so to simplify things, we are encouraging every venue to use reusable packaging where possible.
